Osechi is one of the most traditional dishes in Japan. It’s often eaten on the first three days of the New Year. Each family has its own ways of cooking it, usually at home. Each different osechi dish has a meaning; for example, black beans (called “kuro-mame”) symbolize good health, since mame can also mean hard-working.
